Dr. Frank Saathoff, Dr. Ian Needleman und Dr. Holger Claas

Dr. Holger Claas and Dr. Frank Saathoff traveled to London as DGzPRsport representatives to meet a sports dentistry icon:Dr. Ian Needleman

It is time for scientific development in sports dentistry to be brought from a national to an international level. The research and the associated options for therapy for professional athletes are set to improve dramatically, thanks to the impact of these synergies. This statement laid the foundations for, and was the slogan of, this international meeting.

The common objectives are the intensification of joint research projects and of course, training dental colleagues in the field of sports dentistry. This also requires establishing uniform standards for quality assurance in both teaching and practice.

The discussions with Dr. Needleman quickly showed that scientific motivation matches the level of personal commitment. Only scientifically-based sports dentistry can be adopted in clinics and practices. Evidence-based medicine is therefore the right way to enable performance improvements in elite sports. Improved health protects against injuries and enables faster recovery.

The day in London was hardly long enough to be able to cover all the exciting topics. We all quickly agreed to maintain an extensive exchange in the future.

This ensures that the current year 2019 is a milestone in the development of sports dentistry.

We look forward to the next projects!
